Jerma Palace Hotel

Marsascala, Malta

2018 - 2020

The Jerma Palace Hotel is a former four star luxury resort in Marsaskala, Malta. It was built on the headland of il‑Ħamrija and opened in 1982 as a Libyan investment, managed by Corinthia Hotels International. The hotel was one of the largest in southern Malta and helped transform Marsaskala from a quiet fishing village into an established resort town. During its operation the hotel included an exclusive presidential suite used by Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

After twenty five years of service the hotel closed in 2007 and never reopened. It was sold in 2008, but subsequent redevelopment plans for new hotel facilities, apartments, or mixed use projects did not materialise. In the years since closure the building fell into severe decay. Its interior was stripped of valuable fixtures and finishes including carpets, marble, tiles, doors, and other materials leaving the structure largely empty and vandalised. Graffiti now covers many surfaces and the site is unsafe and derelict.

Various proposals to redevelop the site continue to be discussed, including plans for residential units, serviced apartments, and hotel accommodation, but as of 2025 no project has been fully approved or realised.
